Addison Way prepares to release its most personal and powerful album yet
What began as quiet introspection in the midst of a global pandemic has now transformed into a musical journey of reckoning, reflection, and release. The upcoming album On Death and Dying by Addison Way is more than just a collection of songs—it's a map of emotion and memory drawn from the experiences that shape our lives and echo through generations.
Written and recorded in a time of unprecedented global upheaval and personal growth, the tracks on this album offer raw, honest meditations on love, loss, resilience, and the legacy we leave behind. Each piece holds a unique emotional imprint-sometimes subtle and soothing, sometimes roaring with catharsis.
It All Started in Silence
The first song to emerge from the shadows was the instrumental “Things Will Be Okay (I Hope…)”. Composed during David Addison’s 10-day quarantine after contracting COVID-19, the track reflects a whirlwind of fear, guilt, and transformation. It also marked a turning point-Addison quit smoking after 30 years, chose to face his mortality, and rediscovered his musical voice.
“I hadn’t written in over a decade. But that fear-it unlocked something. I had to write again. I needed to leave something behind. This song was the beginning.” - David Addison
A New Voice, A New Vision
From that point on, songs began pouring out. Each one, like a letter to the future—especially for Addison’s son, Raymond. The album is filled with lessons and truths, spiritual pondering and quiet prayers. Not just to God, but to those we’ve lost, and those we hope to guide even after we’re gone.
Tracks like “Back Home To You” and “Into the Light” radiate with parental devotion and existential wonder. “God Isn’t Dead” offers a unique take on spirituality, blending faith, philosophy, and love in a way that moves beyond the walls of any church.
And then, there’s the weight.
Reflections in Grief and Legacy
Songs like “As We Watch Our Heroes Die”, “Suffering In Silence”, and “All For Nothing” address the difficult truths of modern life-the pain of watching idols fall, the sorrow of collective trauma, and the personal cost of silence.
Inspired in part by the tragic Uvalde shooting, the autobiography of Phil Collins, and the grief visible on Daughtry’s face during a live performance, “As We Watch Our Heroes Die” reminds us that even our champions are human. The instrumental “Suffering In Silence”-its spiritual and sonic predecessor—speaks this truth without words.
Personal Stories, Shared Truths
Other tracks pull from the deeply personal:
- “When It’s Time” mourns the loss of the family dog, Odin, in a tearful tribute to loyalty and love.
- “The Best We Can”, co-written via text messages with Scott Cox during lockdown, explores love, loss, and friendship in the face of hardship.
- “Burn the Boats” was a birthday gift to a lifelong friend, inspired by both Icelandic tradition and Hernán Cortés’ infamous command to his men to eliminate any path of retreat.
“That song just poured out. It was always there. Like a thank-you that finally found its words.” - David Addison
Looking Forward, Looking Within
Even amid heartbreak, there is hope. “The Dream”, “Life Is An Echo”, and “Through Every Season” are sweeping, poetic tracks that explore the journey of life from cradle to grave. They are Addison Way at its most lyrical-filled with wonder, spiritual inquiry, and fatherly love.
In particular, “Through Every Season” acts as a cornerstone of the album’s message: that we are all walking a path through changing seasons, and our job is to guide those who come after us.
“I wrote that for my son when he was five. It’s a promise-one I hope he carries forever.” - David Addison

The Art and the Message
The visual identity of the album reflects the themes within-seasonal change, symbolic echoes, and the tension between light and darkness. From custom-painted guitars to minimalist album art to powerful live performances, everything in this release points to a central truth:
“The things we do, the love we give, the lessons we leave-they matter.”
